The role of female in the nineteenth century of the film Nosferatu (Mina Harker) has been compared with the contemporary female character of Twilight (Twilight). She can go to any extent to have Edward in her life, even to give away her life and become a vampire for Edward. The several feminist scholars have criticized Bella as it represents gender stereotype. Edward is mesmerized in love of Edward; she is a submissive woman who can sacrifice anything to have her vampire boyfriend, even without her werewolf admirer. Bell turns down everything in her life just to ensure that Edward is around her. She jumps off a cliff, disobeys her father and is extremely hopeless without Edward (Bella Not the Role Model). U01d2 Cost Shifting Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

U01d2 Cost Shifting - Essay Example There are a number of different treatments like the surgical, non – surgical cancer, organ transplants and other imaging like CT, MRI, PET scans and numerous other highly sophisticated tests which need to be considered and covered for. America’s health care system in the country is also structured in a manner which contributes to the rise on costs (Griffin, 2000). The concept of cost shifting is one of the major reasons that the costs have also gone up. Cost shifting simply implies at how the cost of care has shifted from one set of people to another group. The concept is such that if one group of people is unwilling to pay the bills, then the costs are redistributed to another set of people who can’t refuse to pay for the costs. One of the few reasons for the inclusion of cost shifting in the health care industry is the creation of Medicaid and Medicare. Shi and Singh explain that the cost shifting was included to offset costs when the charity received was used to make up for the difference. Feldstein explains that when there is a belief that cost shifting occurs, this could possibly be when the hospitals raise their prices to compensate for the patients that are lower charged (Morrisey, 1994). Feldstein also unveils that the costs have increased for two reasons, namely, an increase in the variable costs in terms of the wages and secondly, there are changes in the hospital payer mixes, i.e. an increase in the less price sensitive patients which allows the hospitals to increase the mark ups. This is viewed to be a profit for the hospital however this is a selfishly induced process and is controlled by the cost shifting. The knowledge that people have on the increase in the costs of the providers to make profits has led the industry to be impacted negatively and is also impacting the human charity as well. There is a clear sense of mis happenings within the industry where the rich are being given complete access to quality

International business Case Analysis - Wal-Mart Essay

International business Case Analysis - Wal-Mart - Essay Example Why was Wal-Mart unsuccessful in Germany, withdrawing in 2006, and relatively successful in the UK? 12 Reference 16 How attractive was the discount retailing industry in the USA when Wal-Mart first began operations in the 1950s. The US retail industry has considerably changed over the few decades due to two related trends, one being the discount retailing and second factor is the increasing prevalence of the large retail chains. The discounting retailing sector is controlled by chains. The concept is fairly new and the first discount store appeared in the 1950s. Discount retailing is one of the most dynamic sectors in the retail industry. Until 1990s two important retail chains were Wal-Mart and Kmart (Jia, 2007, p. 5). The retailing industry is known to be the second largest industry across the globe with respect to total number of establishment as well as total number of employees. The retail industry generates about $3.8trillion annually. The top five retail industry operating acr oss the world are Wal-Mart, Target, Home Depot, Costco and Kroger. Wal-Mart apart from being the largest retailer globally is also the largest company and generates approximately $256billion sales annually. In discount retailing industry the two main competitors are Wal-Mart and Target. ... With regards to Wal-Mart, suppliers who do not maintain or live up to the expectation of Wal-Mart point of system are thus replaced. Wal-Mart being a big brand and is powerful enough to make the suppliers recognise the fact and the situation when they do good business and thus can very conveniently switch suppliers at its convenience when they do not perform the work as expected. The suppliers also cannot afford to lose on the big brands, the key players and hence the supplier power tends to be low. As shown above the bargaining powers of customer are relative high as discount retail purchase can be substitutable and thus consumers has the power to go between the competitors depicting a high bargaining power. The switching cost involved in shifting from one competitor to another is also low and the consumers demand for high quality products at discount price. It is important to understand that consumer as individual does not have bargaining power with the retail stores but as a group consumers can demand a higher quality product at low price. Consumers are also price sensitive as a result the suppliers need to keep the price low to succeed indicating high customer power. Threat of new entrant is particularly low in the discount retailing industry as there exist a high barrier to enter the discounted retail industry with respect to investors, capital and competition. The huge capital required by a new entrant to compete with all the established retailers will take a longer time and establish them in the retail market. Although the switching cost is low for the consumers but brand loyalty towards a particular brand are relatively high and consumer would not like to shift towards a

Social Marketing Propaganda Effectiveness on Attitude Change Essay

Social Marketing Propaganda Effectiveness on Attitude Change - Essay Example The notion that a crowd takes over the will of a person much like the suggestions of a hypnotist command the unconscious of the hypnotized are promoted in trying to analyze crowd behavior, (Wichers, 1996). Â  The science of social influence addresses the issue of how and why people change their thoughts, feelings, and behavior of other people through such processes as conformity, persuasion, and attitude change compliance and yielding to social forces and most importantly, the study of social influences aims at developing mechanisms to resist unwanted and undesirable social influences. Jowett & O'Donnell, (2006) agree that time separates the study of propaganda from the political ideologies that hovered over academe in the cold war period and there is a clear revival of interest in the importance of the roles played by propaganda in the many aspects of the modern life, not necessarily related to international intrigue and military campaigns as the first world war changes the traject ory of social influence research. ...On the other hand propaganda and Social marketing are similar in ideologies as social marketing is the taking into action and control measures aimed at influencing the acceptability of social ideas and involving considerations of product planning, pricing, communication, distribution, and marketing research which is all aimed at influencing individual thinking abilities and perception towards a product, (Kotler & Zaltman, 1971). In this definition, the ideology of propaganda and social marketing are pushed forward by ideology rather than pulled by magnetic consumer focus and hence the ideas that define social marketing artifacts are rare. In the United States and Britain the war was marked by a period of patriotism and after the war, many people became disillusioned by the results coming to feel that they have been duped by the propaganda behind it. Based on human behaviour, the Zeitgeist of the times encouraged the belief that social influence a nd mass propaganda was all-powerful based on the suggestion theories from psychoanalysis or behaviorism’s belief in malleable human behavior where researchers and scholars began documenting this belief as well as attempting to find ways to inoculate citizens from propaganda, (Pratkanis, 2007). Weak effects of these variables on social influence as on the other hand in the 1940 Presidential campaign it was observed that few voters changed their voting preferences as a result of the mass media content due to the period 1890 – 1914 witnessed the development of fully fledged advertising agencies (Cull, Culbert & Welch, 2003).

Managing Human Resources Master Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words

Managing Human Resources Master - Essay Example Traditional human resource methods include but are not limited to placing an add in the newspaper or hiring a head hunter. However, neither effort can specify details of their requirements in a cost-effective way. The purchase of a advertisement leaves the employer unable to afford to pack in so much information in a print add. Traditional recruitment methods also have higher costs per hire. This is especially so in the case of head hunters who require a percentage of the annual salary of the candidate whom is ultimately hired. Human Resource recruitment has been argued to be the process of attracting the best qualified individuals or candidate to apply for a job. In business, recruitment involves three stages, identify and define the requirements including the job description, job specifications, attract potential employees and make sure the most appropriate people are retain for a particular position (Poole 1999). Human resource selection process can take place either through internal or external method. According to Poole (1999) internal recruitment and selection refers to the filling of job vacancies from within the business here, existing employees are selected rather than employing someone from outside (Poole 1999). A business might decide that it already has the right people with the right skills to do the job, particularly if its training and development programme has been effective (Poole 1999). Poole (1999) went further to states how internal vacancies are usually advertised within the business via a variety of sources such as Staff notice boards Intranets, in-house magazines etc. This internal selection method has largely been applauded because of its growth opportunity given to internal employees. For example, Osborne, Hyman & Jack (2006) stipulated that internal selection processes, gives existing employees greater opportunity to advance their careers in the business and may help to retain staff who might otherwise leave and assist in a situation of a short induction training period (Osborne, Hyman & Jack 2006). On the other hand, external recruitment and selection processes refer to the filling of job vacancies from outside the business (contrast with internal recruitment). Most businesses engage in external recruitment fairly frequently, particularly those that are growing strongly, or that operate in industries with high staff turnover (Poole 1999, Osborne, Hyman & Jack 2006). Most often, organizations used several ways to look for staff externally. Some used external agencies, some headhunts, while others use job recruitment and student placement fare (Poole 1999). The main advantages with using an agency are the specialist skills they bring and the speed with which they normally provide candidates. They also

History Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 28

History - Essay Example In the eleven states in the US that constituted the American South, slavery was an established social and legal institution that was an integral part of the agricultural economy of these states. The American abolitionists favored the end of slavery, even under the risk of jeopardizing the harmony existing between the Northern and the Southern states. The Abolitionist Movement was favored by many luminaries like William Lloyd Garrison, John Greenleaf Whittier, Fredrick Douglass, and Charles Henry Langston. The Women’s Movement in the United States intended to seek a more egalitarian and just life for the female citizens of the republic. It was motivated by a number of ways in which the women were discriminated against in the United States. In the 1848 America, women were subject to several institutionalized biases. Not only the women were denied the right to vote, but they were also required to be subservient to the laws, while having no active role in the making of those laws. The Women’s Movement intended to correct this injustice. These two movements immensely influenced each other in the sense that many of the female luminaries who stood for woman’s rights were also former abolitionists (Sklar 4). Initially the few people who openly spoke against slavery, which may include Sarah Grimke and Angelina Grimke, also happened to be committed feminists (Sklar 27). To a great extent, it was the participation of the women abolitionists in the anti-slavery activities like public speaking, working for the cause of abolition, organizing rallies and events, getting the petitions signed, planning and managing fundraising events, and drafting and mailing letters to the congressman that gave them a real, firsthand insight into the dynamics and mechanics of political activism, which the later exploited in supporting the cause of women’s rights. Actually it was the sidelining of women abolitionists in the 1840

Sports Activities at School Essay Example for Free

Sports Activities at School Essay Introduction The aim of this report is to analyse why so many students aren’t motivated to do a lot of sports activities at school. A number of students and teachers were interviewed and their suggestions for changes to the methods are summarised. The problem * There aren’t a lot of different sport activities offered at school There don’t seem to be a lot of sports that can be played at school. Only a few sorts of sports are offered and that are football, that isn’t even weekly and a real competition, and softball. If these sports don’t fit you, you haven’t got a lot of opportunities to play sports at school. * Students don’t intend to sport a lot anymore Students aren’t known for their plesure of moving and sporting a lot. The electronics swallow a lot of their spare time, and they aren’t motivated to play sports in their leisure time, because it’s less exciting. Improving the situation What steps can be taken to improve the situation? I would recommend that teachers place more emphasis on increasing the different sorts of sports that are offered at school, in order to get students more motivated. When they are allowed to choose the sport that attracts them most, they will become more motivated. When students are playing a sport they enjoy, they will easily resist the instant tempation of their electronic games. Conclusion Students aren’t as motivated for sports as they should be. There aren’t enough sports activities offered at school, which leads to low motivation on the part of students. In my opinion there should be given more choices to the students what sport they want to practice. When they get to choose from sports they enjoy, they will get more motivated.
